W. D. Hodges of Shoolbred & Co. bought cabinet making and upholstery from Richard Newton at 1 & 3 Fulham Road [The Furniture Gazette, 1 January 1876] and was listed at the Fulham Road address in The Furniture Gazette Directory, 1876 & 1877. 

He advertised for a junior clerk and salesman in The Furniture Gazette, 8 November 1879. By 1886 he was working as an art furniture manufacturer and merchant at 22 Sussex Place, Queens Gate [The Furniture Gazette: Classified List of the Furniture, Upholstery, and Allied Trades, 1886].
