Hippisley, Edward & Britten, Stephen (1733-37)

Hippisley, Edward & Britten, Stephen, Bristol, carpenters and furniture makers (1733–37). Between 1733–37 carried out work in St John's Church, Bristol, charging a total of £713 15s 1d, including £249 1s 8d for panelling, £150 for altarpiece; £45 for pulpit; £47 10s for communion rails, and £2 12s for table. The bill was disputed, legal action taken and assessors appointed who found the work ‘good, Substantial, Artificial & Workmanlike’. Their work was destroyed in 19th-century restorations. [Furn.
