Hill advertised for a ‘steady respectable young man as an improver to upholstery in a first class shop’ [The Furniture Gazette, 27 September 1884]. He was recorded in the Lord Chamberlain’s accounts in 1885 and The Furniture Gazette, 1 March 1888, listed him holding a Warrant of Appointment from the Master of the Horse with authority to use the Royal Arms.
