Glasgow, Scotland; cabinet maker, chair & couch manufacturer, art furniture manufacturer & merchant (fl.1877-1885)

Hill moved his business to Darnley Street, Pollokshields, Glasgow, which was equipped with up-to-date machinery [The Furniture Gazette, 7 July 1877]. 

The partnership of William Hill jnr. & Co. was dissolved in 1882 with the business being continued by Hill [The Furniture Gazette, 20 May 1882]. He then exhibited at the Third Annual Furniture Exhibition, Agricultural Hall, 1883 [The Furniture Gazette, 5 May 1883]. 

Hill jnr of the Govan Cabinet Works was charged under the Factory Act, 1871, with failing to securely fence the wheel of a steam engine in his factory, despite visits and instructions given by J. S. Maitland, Inspector of Factories. As a result an engineman called Andrew Davidson received severe injuries to his leg  was unable to work from 10 December 1883. The Sheriff imposed a fine of £4 7s 6d including costs on Mr. Hill [The Furniture Gazette, 22 March 1884].

The partners, William Hill jnr, T. Brock and W. Allison, filed for sequestration of their business on 11 December 1884 and trustees were appointed. A second and equalizing dividend was paid on 12 October 1885 [The Furniture Gazette, 27 December 1884, 17 January & 1 November 1885]. 

The firm was listed in The Furniture Gazette: Classified List of the Furniture, Upholstery, and Allied Trades (1886) but the list could have been compiled prior to sequestration.
