Herbert, John (1800)

Herbert, John

Lancaster, Lancs.; cabinet maker (fl.1800)

‘Herbert’ was recorded in the Gillow’s Archive in connection with a bookcase in 1800. He was probably the ‘J. Herbert’ who made a bracket clock case the same year and may have been the father of John Herbert who was apprenticed to Leonard Redmayne in 1820. A chamber table signed by John Herbert was probably by this journeyman (sold Christie’s London, 14 September 2006, lot 375). A dressing table with raised gallery and reeded legs, also signed by John Herbert, was sold by Christie’s 29 November 2001, lot 257.
