Hall, J.

London; furniture maker, cabinet maker (fl.1891-3)

Maker of an inlaid cabinet designed by Reginald Blomfield which was exhibited at Kenton & Co.’s exhibition in 1891 at Barnard’s Inn. It was selected by The Builder, 19 December 1891, for particular praise.

J. Hall was also recorded as the maker of an escritoire, designed by Mervyn Macartney for Kenton & Co., which was exhibited at the Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society, London, in 1893 (cat. no. 105). Examples of this same design are at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (accession no. 2006.4) and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (2003.166A-I); both stamped W. Hall and Kenton & Co. Materials used for these two versions have been identified as mahogany veneered on the exterior with Macassar ebony, silver plated brass knobs and silver moulding.
