Gutta Percha Company

Originally called the The West Ham Gutta Percha company, the firm were one of the makers of furniture from a composite material which came from the Isonandra gutta tree, ideal for decorative purposes as it could be softened by heat to take delicate impressions.

Described as a patentee manufacturer, Gutta Percha Co. exhibited a pier table & glass (Class 26) and other specimens of manufacture with this material (Class 28) at the 1851 Great Exhibition (pier & glass illus. Meyer (2006), p. 60). They also displayed printing, cutting & folding machinery for use when working from gutta percha castings (Class 6).
