Ford, Samuel

London and Reading, Berkshire; upholsterer (fl. 1768–1836)

Samuel Ford snr was the son of Samuel Ford of Reading, apprenticed to James Grange on 11 April 1768 and admitted a freeman of the Upholders’ Company by servitude on 2 August 1780.

Recorded at 77 New Bond Street in 1780 and Reading, 1794– 1836; as Samuel jnr at Market Place, Reading, 1820–26; and as S. & Sons, cabinet makers at no. 40, 1823–36.

He purchased a Sun Insurance policy on 8 May 1801 for £490 on a house in tenure of Mr Earles, broker [The London Archives (TLA), Sun MS vol. 40, ref. 717976].

Apparently three generations of tradesmen are concerned here.
