Float was named in newspapers in 1747. He employed one non-freeman for eight months in 1768.
He purchased a Sun Insurance policy in 1781 for £200 of which £100 accounted for utensils and stock [Guildhall Library City Licence books, vol. 6; London Metropolitan Archive, Sun MS vol. 293, p. 296].
