Finer was listed as cabinet maker in Tendring, Essex, 1780-81 [Colchester poll books].

He was then recorded at Camomile Street, Bishopsgate Street, London, as a cabinet maker and upholsterer (1784–1821); trading at no. 21 (1796–1819); and no. 24 (1816–19).

He was named in Sheraton's list of master cabinet makers, 1803.

He purchased a Sun Insurance policies on 27 April 1808 for £1,000, with stock and utensils accounting for £700; and on 26 April 1810 another policy for £1,200, with £700 on stock and utensils [Colchester poll books; Guildhall Library, Sun MS vol. 446, ref. 816366; vol. 452, ref. 844192].
