Bath, Somerset; cabinet maker, upholsterer, carver (fl.1852-65)
Listed as a cabinetmaker and upholsterer at 31 Broad Street, Bath in the Bath Annual Directory 1852 and was probably part of the Eyles family involved in furniture making in Bath, including T. G. Eyles (cabinet maker) & George Eyles (carver). Henry Eyles was listed at 7 Margaret’s Buildings in 1864-65. In the 1851 Great Exhibition Henry Eyles exhibited The Star of Brunswick carved walnut table.

He also exhibited two walnut, carved and inlaid chairs inset with Worcester porcelain plaques, one a drawing room chair with a plaque of Queen Victoria.

These pieces were lent by the grandchildren of Henry Eyles to the 1951 ‘The Great Exhibition of 1851’ show at the V&A and eventually given to the museum by the family. The three pieces are all illus. Aslin (1962), pls 9, 40 & frontispiece.
