Dutton, J. M.

unknown location; brass engraver (fl.c.1763)

There are four brass-inlaid serpentine commodes attributed to Pierre Langlois, one dated 1763, in the Royal Collection, two of which are in the State Bedroom at Windsor Castle. Three bear signatures including that of J.M. Dutton on the brass marquetry tops of baskets of flowers (illus. Gilbert (1996), figs 301-303). Other signatures have been deciphered as ‘Focan’ and ‘F.M. la Cave’ for Francois Morellon La Cave, an engraver and etcher.
