Dixon, Arthur
Kendal, Cumbria; cabinet maker (b.1876-1952)
Son of the furniture maker, Tom Dixon. Father and son both of whom worked at The Handicrafts in Kendal. Arthur started his working life at the age of 14 in 1890 as an apprentice there and was the last person on the premises in 1952. He became foreman when Philipson retired in 1922. In collaboration with Simpson and Ernest Oldcorn he had a cabinet accepted by the Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society in 1912. He later taught woodwork at Kendal Grammar School and was much liked.
