Ellis was working as an upholsterer at 3 No. 2 Court, Lomax Street, Manchester (1817); at 15 Snow Hill, Birmingham (1822–30); at 80 Digbeth, also as a mattress maker (1822); and at 15 Snow Hill (1830).
