Cookson, Jim

Kendal, Cumbria; carver (fl.1903-30)

Worked in The Handicrafts workshops in Kendal with Arthur W. and Hubert Simpson. He was the last carver working there. His work included the Cunliffe Cross and the reading desk at Parkside cemetery chapel.

An oak sideboard, with inlay, price £15, designed by Dan Gibson, was executed by Townson Graham and Cookson (cat. no. 290) and exhibited by Arthur W. Simpson at the Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society, London, in 1903. At the 1910 Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society, a stationery box in oak, carved, £4 10s, exhibited by Simpson, was executed by Cookson and A. Dixon (cat. no. 359a.)
