Carstairs, George

64 King St, Argyle Pl., London; cabinet maker and upholder (fl. 1833-1839)

Carried out extensive repair work to an ivory table for Sir John Soane in 1833; ‘charing Antique oval ivory table, ‘a new drawer & Gilding do, new locks’ and the top to be lined with ‘colour’d Morocco leather’. The table is now in the Morning Room at the Sir John Soane’s Museum, London (catalogue no. 170 & illustrated). Carstairs’ bill also included Thomas Parker’s bill for repair to the three Indian ivory chairs.
