Bruce was recorded in The Furniture Gazette Directory (1877) as cabinet maker and chair & couch manufacturer. The Furniture Gazette, 3 November 1877, recorded the appointment of a trustee for the liquidation of his business but apparently the firm survived because it was listed in The Furniture Gazette: Classified List of the Furniture, Upholstery, and Allied Trades (1886).
