Lancaster, Lancs. and London; cabinet maker (fl.c.1785-1808)
William Brownrigg signed the 1785 Lancaster wage agreement with two other workmen and was listed in Gillows’ Petty Ledger for 1783-85. He made a bureau library for Thomas Gibbons, ironmonger, of Wolverhampton, in November 1785 described ‘as a buroe in new way wth, openg. [?] centre, solid ends, tops to rise twice, upper do, with leather pieces let in to secure [?] horses, fronts veneered as common...’. Brownrigg was paid £3.12s. 1d. for making it. He was probably the man of the same name whose address was give 1805-8 as ‘176 Oxford Street’, which was Gillows’ London premises. He took out Sun Insurance policies on 14 October 1805 for £700 on a private house at 7 Bedford St, Bedford Row; on 26 October 1805 for £500, £100 on two adjoining houses at ½ East Lane, Greenwich, and £200 on six houses in tenure, three in Mowbray Ct; and on 17 October 1808 for £1,400, £800 on a private house at 7 Bedford St, £800 on no. 9 in tenure, £140 on private houses at 1–2 East Lane, Greenwich, and £260 on six houses in tenure in Mowbray Ct.
