The Furniture Gazette (1 January 1885) reported both partners were trained cabinet makers and were manufacturing a variety of coal boxes ranging from simple ones 10ins wide to the highest finished coal cabinets made in oak, walnut, mahogany, teak or ebonised. An advertisement in The Furniture Gazette (1 January 1886) illustrated 2 wooden coal boxes with feature metal mounts.
Brooks & Wright were listed in Furniture Gazette: Classified List of the Furniture, Upholstery, and Allied Trades (1886) as fancy cabinet manufacturers and The Furniture Gazette (1 August 1886) announced the introduction of some novelty objects into their range of manufacture, including cabinet coal vases, some of which were surmounted by what-nots. These new cabinet coal vases had carved or inlaid panels and could be made in oak, walnut or mahogany. In addition to this new range, the firm were also manufacturing ‘Ascot’ occasional tables, davenports, jardinière boxes, chiffoniers and music cabinets.
