Brook(e)(s), Robert

London; cabinet maker and upholder (fl. 1764–1802)

Trading at 1 Budge Row, 1774–93; and Bell Yard, Temple Bar, 1794–1802

He was the son of the Clothworker, John Brooke of London, apprenticed to Daniel Holbrow on 2 August 1764, and William Rogers on 7 March 1765. Admitted a freeman of the Upholders’ Company on 7 August 1771 [Guildhall Library (GL), Upholders’ Company records].

In 1785 he employed two non-freemen for three months.

He married Miss Brewer in September 1787 [Gents Magazine,  September 1787].

In 1789 the firm of Brook & Shotter, upholders and cabinet makers were recorded at Bridge Row (a common misnaming of Budge Row).
