The son of Roger Brigham, Gentleman, deceased; apprenticed to George Reynoldson on 7 February 1739.

Listed on 11 October 1745 amongst papists recognizances, and granted licence to travel as popish recusant with Henry Smith to Barnborough for twenty-one days, on 22 February 1746; and alone to Weighton for seven days on 29 April 1746 [York City Archives, apprentice registry; Quarter sessions book, E/41B].
