Binns, Edward (1772-1784)

Binns, Edward

London and Lancaster, Lancs.; cabinet maker, carver and joiner (fl.1772-1784)

Originally of Wray (near Hornby, North Lancashire), the son of Elizabeth Binns and David Bell of Colton, Yorkshire, husbandman. Binns was apprenticed to the joiners and cabinetmakers, John Wakefield and Birket of Lancaster on 21 December 1772. He was a joiner, cabinet maker and carver in London when he became a Lancaster freeman in 1782-83. He voted in the 1784 Parliamentary election in Lancaster. It is not known if he was the Edward Binns of Mount Street, Grosvenor Square, cabinet maker, upholsterer and appraiser (1791-1820). If he was, he had a flourishing business as seen for example by a bill for furnishing Lady Viscountess Kirkwale's house in 1816.

An Edward Binns subscribed to Sheraton's Drawing Book in 1793 and was named in his list of master cabinetmakers in in 1803.
