Carlisle, Cumberland; cabinet makers, joiners, upholsterers, carpet warehousemen, undertakers (fl.1828–1900)

Baty & Kirkbride (sometimes Kirkbride & Baty) were recorded trading at Fisher St in 1829 and 17 Rosemary Lane in 1834.

Thomas Baty & Sons (relationship to the previous partnership unknown) was trading in Carlisle from 1864 and the firm were listed in The Furniture Gazette Directory (1877) as cabinet makers at Fisher Street.

The Graham Gadd Archive (NMS) includes three billheads for Thomas Baty & Sons. One, dated 1864, for funeral expenses and a 1866 bill (above) for repairing and re-upholstering a mahogany rocking chair; these record the firm as upholsterers, cabinet makers and carpet warehousemen at 1 Scotch Street, Carlisle.  Also in this Archive a bill (above), dated 1900, Thomas Baty & Sons at 23 Fisher Street, for various repairs to furniture and upholstery.
