William Agland was working as a chair and sofa maker at 4 Brydges Place, Shoreditch in 1823 when his stock, utensils, goods in trust, and dwelling house were insured with the Sun Fire Office for £100 [Guildhall Library, Sun MS vol. 494, ref. 1010925].
Possibly the same William Agland, cabinet maker & upholsterer listed at 49 Old St Road in the London Post Office Directory (1839); at 7 Clarence Place, Hackney Road (1845); and at 27 Charles Street, Hackney Road (1871). Other directories in 1845 & 1875 give the address of 46 Hassard Street, Hackney Road.
He was recorded as a cabinet maker at 69 Old Street, aged forty-five, with a five-year-old son, also called William, in the 1841 Census. The 1870s directory entries may relate to this son.
